In Japan, the program is administered by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). The Graduate University of Advanced Studies (Soken-dai in Japanese) coordinates the orientation and Japanese language courses, and helps participants move to host institutions.
As a participant in the 2009 EAPSI program in Japan Layla will conduct her summer research project with the Yusa Lab at Tohoku University. She will also fully participate in the NanoJapan 2009 Orientation Program, from mid-May to early June, where she will assist with the Introduction to Nanotechnology seminar and serve as a mentor and advisor to the undergraduate participants in this program.
Layla is a second year graduate student in the Applied Physics program at Rice University and is a member of the Kono Lab. She is also the recipient of a
2008 National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship (NDSEG).
