NanoJapan Overview
During the summer of 2006 I spent a total of seven week conducting research with Prof. Tonouchi at Osaka University on improving the Laser Terahertz Emission Microscope and overcoming optical resolution limits in terahertz spectroscopy. I found this opportunity to be unlike anything I have ever experienced before. It really opened my eyes to a completely new world and only st rengthened my aspirations to work in Japan.
My participation in the NanoJapan program has led me to pursue further international opportunities by reinforcing my decision to continue my study of the Japanese language through sixth semester of Japanese. However, there is no substitute for being in the country to learn language and culture. In the classroom, language studies are artificial environments, but NanoJapan puts the student in the middle of the people and the culture—where nothing is artificial. It was truly one of the most exciting experiences I have ever had in my entire life, and I am thankful to all those involved.
